The future is in treatment.

Wastewater needs more than a place to collect. A correctly selected biological plant treats organic pollution before a designed and permitted discharge.

The future is in treatment.

Three systems, three different jobs.

A watertight holding tank stores wastewater until it is collected by a licensed service. A septic tank provides primary settlement; the effluent still needs an appropriate downstream treatment system, often a designed soil infiltration system. A biological plant adds a controlled biological stage that reduces organic pollution. Neither a holding tank nor a septic tank alone should be presented as complete biological treatment.

Why choose biological treatment?

For suitable properties without a sewer connection, a correctly sized plant offers a defined treatment process and documented performance for the selected model. Rotating media, aeration and filter technologies meet different operating needs. Performance depends on correct loading, installation, servicing and the agreed discharge route. Compare the whole installation rather than only the tank price.

Less pollution requires a complete design.

Cleaning wastewater helps protect receiving waters and groundwater. However, treated effluent is not automatically drinking water and cannot automatically be discharged anywhere or reused for irrigation. Soil, groundwater, nearby wells, protected areas and local permissions determine what is feasible. Rainwater tanks and oil separators perform other tasks and do not replace domestic sewage treatment.

Europe: tighter requirements, not a universal ban.

There is no single Europe-wide ban on every septic system. In England, the general binding rules do not allow a septic tank to discharge directly into a watercourse: an appropriate treatment route or upgrade is required. In France, individual sanitation is subject to SPANC checks and maintenance. Ireland also allows properly designed and maintained domestic systems, subject to registration and applicable requirements. These examples favour effective treatment and accountability rather than simply storing or releasing untreated sewage.

The European direction and your project in Croatia.

Directive (EU) 2024/3019 strengthens urban wastewater management. Article 4 concerns individual systems in specified situations within the directive’s scope; it is not a blanket order to remove every domestic septic tank. In Croatia, check the local wastewater drainage decision, connection obligations and project-specific discharge conditions with the competent service and designer.

Operating costs belong in the comparison.

Holding tanks require regular collection, with costs depending on water use, tank volume and local service prices. Biological plants still need inspection, sludge removal and, for powered models, electricity and equipment servicing. Compare purchase, earthworks, discharge construction, electricity, service and sludge collection over the same period. We do not promise maintenance-free operation or a universal payback time.

Choose around actual use.

Tell us the number of users, seasonal occupancy, property type and location. We can compare Kingspan Klargester systems and coordinate installation with Valjak Niskogradnja. Final sizing and discharge arrangements must follow the project and local requirements.

The right system starts with your site.

Tell us about the property, location and expected use. We will help define the equipment and installation scope.
